The first Tom Ausherman 5 miler was held in August of 1988 and
was won by Tim Cook of Chambersburg. The race was developed by the
Tom Ausherman Memorial Committee designed to honor Tom Ausherman
who died following a 2 mile Hagerstown Run for Fun race held at
Hagerstown
Junior College on June 2, 1987. Tom Ausherman was one of the
founding fathers of the Chambersburg Road Runners and served as Vice
President of the Club for many years. He was also very active in
the Marine Corps League and was named Marine of the Year in the state
of Pennsylvania in 1983. The Marine Corps League in conjunction
with the Tom Ausherman Memorial Committee and support of the
Chambersburg
Road Runners and their dedicated sponsors are proud to bring
this race to Chambersburg.
Since the inaugural race in 1988, several Olympians have raced
the flat course which winds through the scenic north
end of Chambersburg, and the race has grown from 200 finishers
to 400 in 2011. It is the vision of the Race committee to continue
the tradition in which runners of all abilities can enjoy the
experience. We thank you for your support of this race and look forward
to seeing all of you on August 10, 2019.
